FibroScan
FibroScan testing is an FDA-approved, non-invasive diagnostic tool used to assess liver scarring or fibrosis caused by various liver diseases. Similar to a standard liver ultrasound, this outpatient procedure is quick, painless, and simple, offering a non-surgical alternative to the traditional liver biopsy for evaluating liver damage.

How FibroScan Works
A FibroScan utilizes ultrasound technology to assess liver stiffness by measuring the speed of a shear wave passing through the liver tissue. It can also evaluate the level of fat present in the liver. Doctors may recommend a FibroScan to determine the severity of liver scarring or fibrosis and to guide treatment planning. Fibrosis can result from various factors, such as excessive alcohol use, obesity, diabetes, or exposure to certain toxins or viruses. A FibroScan is a fast and painless procedure, typically lasting about 10 minutes. During the scan, you may feel a gentle vibration on your skin where the probe is applied. It offers a non-invasive alternative to a liver biopsy, which involves sedation and a surgical procedure.
Your doctor may suggest a FibroScan test if you have any of the following chronic liver conditions:
Autoimmune Hepatitis
Hepatitis B & C
Cirrhosis
Alcoholic Liver Disease
Genetic Diseases
Non-Alcoholic Steatohepatitis (NASH)
